NEW PATIENT INFORMATION

NEW PATIENT EVALUATIONS

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for your appointment. Your first visit can take ½ to 1 hour if skin testing is not involved, and 2 to 2½ hours if you are having skin testing done. A new patient visit consists of a review of your complete medical history, a physical exam, allergy skin testing or allergy blood testing, and preliminary laboratory tests. At the conclusion of your testing, your physician discusses your symptoms with you and proposes a course of treatment for you.

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
  • Please bring a complete list of any medications you are taking.
  • Your insurance card.
  • Any pertinent records of previous allergy treatment or testing, and any pulmonary tests.
  • A list of your drug allergies.
  • Payment for your first visit.
  • Any questions you want to ask your doctor.
PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKIN TESTING
  • Schedule an appointment with the receptionist
  • Five (5) days before your testing appointment is scheduled, please stop taking the following medications:
    • Antihistamines
    • Decongestant / antihistamine combination medications
    • Astelin, a prescription nose spray antihistamine
    • Any over the counter allergy medicines, cold & cough remedies
    • Any over-the-counter sleep aids, they usually contain a sedating antihistamine
*** Note:
If you are not certain if you are taking a product that contains an antihistamine, ask your pharmacist or call our office.

PLEASE NOTE:

You should continue to take as prescribed the following medications:
  • Antibiotics
  • All asthma medications
  • Prescription nose sprays, with the exception of Astelin, which is an antihistamine
  • Decongestants that are not combined with an antihistamine
Please dress accordingly: the 1st phase of testing (prick tests) are done on the back and the 2nd phase of testing (intradermal tests) are done on the upper arms.
